Jane Pavitt

Tony Hurren writes....
All at Hackney Speedway are saddened to hear the news that Jane Pavitt, wife of the club's former promoter Dave, has passed away after a six month battle against cancer, she was 67.
Dave met Jane at Portslade, near Brighton in East Sussex when he was running a cleaning business prior to his involvement in speedway. She was initially one of his employees before becoming an area supervisor.
Her involvement in speedway began in earnest in 1987 when Dave became the sole promoter at Hackney. She became part of the promotional team, being responsible for the club's administration.
She quickly grew into speedway and travelled with Dave all over the country watching the club, none more so than in 1988 when she attended every meeting home and away. That was the season when The Hackney HL1 Kestrels were crowned  National League  champions and also won the Knock Out Cup.
Jane and Dave had a daughter Donna, as well as children by previous marriages.
Hackney programme columnist Birdbrain knew Jane very well and she often featured in his weekly bulletin. He said: “She was a lovely lady being both quiet and unassuming. I had a soft spot for her.”
I'll show below a couple of Birdie's programme classics where both Jane and Dave were often the target of his somewhat warped sense of humour.
